Brasil Bioma
The Farm
Fazenda Bioma belongs to Flávio Márcio and Marcelo Nogueira, two agribusiness entrepreneurs who grew up in rural farming families and are united by their passion for coffee cultivation. Their philosophy centers on two fundamental pillars: producing high-quality coffee and implementing sustainable agricultural practices.
At Fazenda Bioma, cover crops are planted between the rows of coffee plants to protect and enrich the soil with organic matter. Flávio and Marcelo produce their own fertilizer by reusing organic matter from the coffee cherries themselves. They also reduce waste and thus improve soil health, while combating global warming. To further promote sustainability, they have introduced avocado cultivation to prevent erosion, conserve essential nutrients, and diversify their income streams, while preserving 63% of their land as protected natural areas.
From cultivation to post-harvest, Fazenda Bioma integrates the expertise of seasoned professionals to guarantee excellence at every stage. Their efforts have earned them significant recognition, with Bioma Café consistently ranking among the best in regional and national coffee competitions since 2016, and even achieving international acclaim. Notably, their first-place finish in this year’s Cup of Excellence in the Experimental category is a testament to their commitment and passion.
Process Method
At Fazenda Bioma, every stage of production is carried out on-site to guarantee exceptional quality. The cherries are harvested at their optimal ripeness and carefully dried in the sun or in greenhouses, ensuring a precise moisture level before crushing and export.
This batch has been processed using the natural method and dried on patios in the sun, being carefully turned regularly to ensure even drying.
This meticulous process, combined with sustainable practices and an unwavering focus on quality, makes Fazenda Bioma coffee a true highlight in the world of specialty coffee.
Origin
Southern Minas Gerais is one of Brazil’s most productive coffee-growing regions. This area has cultivated Arabica coffee since the 1850s and is characterized by rolling hills, a mild climate with an average temperature of 23°C, and high elevations. While some of Brazil’s largest coffee farms are located in Southern Minas, more than half of the region’s producers are small and medium-sized farms. This region accounts for, on average, 30% of Brazil’s coffee production.
The mountainous terrain, reaching up to 1,400 meters above sea level, is ideal for coffee cultivation, and in recent years, production quality has improved through investments in infrastructure and sustainability measures. The most commonly cultivated varieties are Yellow Catuaí and Novo Mundo, but other farms also grow Icatú, Obatã, and Red Catuaí. Most of the coffee produced there is processed naturally.
