The art of gifting single-origin coffee: MagMax lots

In reality, giving single-origin coffee as a gift is much more than offering a quality product. It is also about sharing a story, a territory and a specific way of understanding coffee. That is why, when we look for meaningful gifts for Christmas, speciality coffee becomes an option that can convey something to both those who already enjoy it on a daily basis and those who are just beginning to discover it.

Single-origin coffee makes an excellent gift because it is traceable and reflects the character of its place of origin: the altitude, climate, variety and work of those who grow it. Choosing well means paying attention to these factors and the sensory profile, from more chocolatey and enveloping coffees to more floral or fruity options.

At Cafés El Magnífico, the Three Kings holiday is always a good time to go one step further with MagMax gift sets. These sets feature a selection of single-origin coffees roasted especially for this time of year and designed to give not only coffee, but also experiences.

Below, we take a look at three of the proposals that form part of this special selection.

The Hartmann family: pioneers of speciality coffee in Panama

To speak of the Hartmann Estate is to speak of history, commitment, and absolute respect for nature. This project, located in the Chiriquí region in western Panama, is one of the country’s leading producers of speciality coffee. Founded in 1940 by Ratibor Hartmann, the estate has been passed down from generation to generation as a family legacy deeply rooted in the land.

The Hartmanns were pioneers in understanding coffee not only as a crop, but as an ecosystem. Their farms are located between 1,300 and 2,000 metres above sea level, surrounded by native forest and nature reserves. Here, there is no indiscriminate logging: trees are replanted, the soil is cared for, and work is carried out in harmony with the environment. This production method guarantees not only the quality of the coffee, but also the long-term sustainability of the project.

Today, the entire family actively participates in the management, quality control, and promotion of the coffee they produce. Figures such as Diana Hartmann, an international judge in several editions of the Cup of Excellence, reflect the level of knowledge and high standards behind each batch. For Cafés El Magnífico, incorporating this coffee into their roaster is the result of many years of relationship and mutual trust.

The proposal selected for MagMax is a naturally processed Catuaí and Caturra, roasted for filter coffee. In the cup, it has a light body, integrated acidity and a markedly sweet profile, with notes of orange marmalade, vanilla and caramelised almonds. It is an elegant and accessible coffee, ideal as a gift for those seeking sweetness, balance and a comforting experience, perfect for after-dinner conversations following the traditional Three Kings’ cake.

Ethiopia Rare Nansebo x Soko Coffee: the elegance of origin

Ethiopia is the birthplace of coffee, and remains one of the most fascinating origins due to the diversity and complexity of its profiles. In the remote village of Raro Nansebo, in the district of Uraga (Guji), a small group of fifteen coffee farmers grow coffee using traditional agricultural practices, in a virtually untouched environment.

The varieties used, 74110 and 74112, were developed by the Jimma Agricultural Research Centre for their disease resistance and extraordinary cup potential. When properly processed, these varieties offer citrus and floral profiles with great expressiveness. In this case, the natural anaerobic process further enhances the coffee’s aromatic complexity.

During harvest, producers bring their cherries to Sooko Coffee, a processing station founded in 2018 by Ture Waji, Eegata Alaka and Fedesha Wodesa. There, tradition and technical support come together: coffee farmers are trained in good agricultural practices, pre-harvest loans are offered, and an active social policy (‘women first’) is promoted, including the construction of a school and improvements to local infrastructure.

The result is a full-bodied coffee with subtle acidity and a deeply expressive cup, featuring notes of ripe fruit, white flowers, peach and cocoa nibs. It is a coffee that invites you to pause and pay attention, ideal for those who enjoy discovering nuances and layers of flavour in every sip.

As a single-origin coffee gift, this offering is perfect for filter coffee lovers looking for something special and different. It represents the essence of Ethiopian origin from a contemporary perspective, combining tradition, innovation and deeply respectful agricultural practices.

El Salvador Miramar: recognised excellence in competition

MagMax’s third proposal takes us to El Salvador, specifically to Finca Miramar, in the Tecapa-Chinameca region. This project belongs to ALFACOMER, a company founded in 2019 by Fernando Felipe Alfaro Castañeda, a professional with more than 35 years of experience in coffee cultivation, processing and export.

Finca Miramar’s vision is clear: to produce coffees of exceptional quality, designed for both competition and the specialty market. And the results speak for themselves. The selected lot won 5th place in El Salvador’s Cup of Excellence 2025, in the washed and semi-washed category, with Claudia Sans Witty as judge.

This is a Bourbon honey, omni roast, with a heavy body, subtle acidity and a sweet, enveloping profile. Notes of date, chestnut and quince appear in the cup, adding depth and a particularly warm sensation. This coffee works very well in both filter and espresso methods, making it a versatile gift option.

This coffee is ideal for those who value recognised excellence, sweet and structured profiles, and the story behind an award-winning batch.

A gift that invites discovery

Giving coffee from a specific origin is giving time, attention and curiosity. It is inviting the recipient to discover different countries, farms and sensory profiles, and to enjoy coffee from a more conscious perspective. The MagMax selection for Three Kings Day from Cafés El Magnífico brings all of this together: unique origins, committed projects and coffees roasted to bring out the best in each one.

If you are looking for a single-origin coffee to give as a gift on Three Kings Day, we invite you to browse the Cafés El Magnífico speciality coffee catalogue and let yourself be guided by their stories, aromas and flavours. Because every coffee is a journey, and there is no better time to share it than during the festive season.
